Abstract
Dynamic light scattering was used to examine ferrielectric liquid-crys talline phases in porous media. Whereas in larger pores (2000 Angstrom ) ferrielectric phases were observed, they were not found in the small est pores (200 Angstrom). Additionally, the temperatures of several ph ase transitions were found to be suppressed in the pores relative to b ulk. These observations have been explained by the structural aspects of antiferroelectric liquid-crystalline materials in a confined geomet ry. [S0031-9007(98)07214-7].
