QUANTITATIVE-DETERMINATION OF MAITENIN AND 22-BETA-HYDROXYMAITENIN INCALLUS OF MAYTENUS-AQUIFOLIUM (CELASTRACEAE) BY REVERSE-PHASE HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHY
J. Corsino et al., QUANTITATIVE-DETERMINATION OF MAITENIN AND 22-BETA-HYDROXYMAITENIN INCALLUS OF MAYTENUS-AQUIFOLIUM (CELASTRACEAE) BY REVERSE-PHASE HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHY, Phytochemical analysis, 9(5), 1998, pp. 245-247
Explants of Maytenus aquifolium were induced to form callus and, subse
quently, suspension cultures. The isolation of natural products from c
allus led to the identification of the cytotoxic triterpene quinonemet
hides, maitenin (1) and 22 beta-hydroxymaitenin (2), A rapid, sensitiv
e and reliable reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography m
ethod was developed using a Cls column and isocratic elution for the d
etermination of 1 and 2, The elaborated method gave well-resolved peak
s for these compounds with good detection response and linearity in th
e range of 0.08-72.0 mu g. The quantification of 1 and 2 was performed
by an external standard method. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
