The kinetics of oxidation of low-density polyethylene in the flow zone
of O-2 plasma afterglow was studied. Steady-state rates of polymer ma
ss loss, oxygen uptake, and gas product formation at a discharge curre
nt of 20-80 mA, pressure of 50-250 Pa:and temperature 300-360 K were m
easured. The rate constant for chemical interaction of O(P-3) atoms wi
th polyethylene and the yields of CO2, CO, H2O, and H-2 per molecule o
f consumed oxidant were determined.
