We tested the effects of exposure to a time-varying magnetic field cha
nging between 0.07 and 1.7 T at an interval of 3 s on transient increa
se in intracellular Ca2+ stimulated by bradykinin in bovine adrenal ch
romaffin cells. Addition of bradykinin induced the increase in intrace
llular Ca2+ within a few minutes. The exposure to the magnetic field p
erfectly suppressed the increase in intracellular Ca2+ in Ca2+-free me
dium, The inhibition occurred for 15 min when the maximum magnetic flu
x density was more than 1.4 T, These results suggest that the exposure
inhibits Ca2+ release from intracellular Ca2+ stores,(C) 1998 Federat
