V. Torres et al., THE EXTENSION OF THE SAMPLING METHOD OF HAYDOCK AND SHAW TO ESTIMATE THE MORPHOLOGICAL COMPONENTS OF A CYNODON-NLEMFLUENSIS CV JAMAICAN SWARD, Cuban journal of agricultural science, 32(3), 1998, pp. 235-238
The subjective method of Haydock and Shaw (1975) was used to sample 0.
25 ha Jamaican star grass (Cynodon nlemfluensis cv. Jamaican) sward fo
r five weeks to estimate fresh and dry matter availabilities as well a
s morphological yield components. Samples obtained form the reference
frames were manually separated to determine the weight of the green an
d dead material and in each of these parts that of leaves and stems. C
orrelations were estimated between these indicators and between refere
nce frames. Adjustments were made (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001) for all ind
icators, except the components of the dead material. The performance o
f the reference frames and the estimates found allow to describe the m
orphological and biological composition of the species.
