Abstract
Eight STR systems (THO1, FABP, VWA, FES/FPS, HPRTB, F13A1, CSF1PO, and D6S366) were investigated in different ethnic groups of Argentina, Al lele and genotype frequencies, power of exclusion, and discriminative power were investigated. Hardy-Weinberg expectations were calculated f rom heterozygosity levels. F-ST and G tests demonstrated that signific ant differences exist among the investigated populations for some of t he eight STRs markers. The Wichi Indians are clearly separated from th e Mapuche and Tehuelche, who in turn are closer to the European popula tion, suggesting non-Amerindian admixture.
