We apply an analytical expression to the plants and enclosed air in a
greenhouse for various design parameters and a given climatic conditio
n. A numerical method has been used to validate an analytical expressi
on for the plant temperature. Our analysis is based on energy-balance
equations for different components of the greenhouse. Numerical comput
ations have been carried out for a typical summer day in Delhi. The ef
fects of parameters such as the rate and duration of ventilation, mova
ble insulation, etc, have been studied. Our model may be used to stand
ardize a greenhouse for any climatic conditions. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sci
