Using quenched chiral perturbation theory, we calculate one-loop corre
ctions to the axial charges of the octet baryons in the quenched appro
ximation to quantum chromodynamics. The results are used to compare ch
iral corrections to the axial charges in full QCD chiral perturbation
theory with those in quenched QCD. We find that the quenched chiral pe
rturbation theory result Q)+c(l2)(Q)m(pi)(2))lnm(pi)(2)+c(2)(Q)m(pi)(2
)+... is singular in the chiral limit unlike the regular behavior of t
he full QCD chiral perturbation theory result c(0)+c(l2)m(pi)(2)lnm(pi
