The body of data on transport properties, optical absorption, low-temp
erature heat capacity, tunneling spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility
, superconductivity and self-compensation are summarized for thallium-
doped PbM (M = Te, Se, S) materials and PbM based alloys. The physical
properties of the materials are explained in a unified manner using t
he concept of resonance Tl states embedded in the background of the ma
terial's valence band. The basic parameters of resonance impurity stat
es are estimated and their dependence on temperature, pressure and mat
erial composition is determined.
