The electrochemical oxidation of anodic metals, gallium, indium or tha
llium, in an acetonitrile solution of 1-hydroxopyridine-2-thione (HPT)
affords [Ga(PT)(3)], [In(PT)(3)], [Tl(PT)(3)] and [Tl(PT)]. The cryst
al structures of [In(PT)(3)] and [Tl(PT)(3)] were determined by X-ray
diffraction. The compounds consist of monomeric molecules in which the
central MO3S3 units (M =In, Tl) have distorted octahedral environment
s. IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectra of the complexes are discussed and rel
ated to the structure. Tl-205 NMR spectra of thallium complexes are al
so presented. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
