The adsorption of bromocyclopropane on a Cu(110) single crystal surfac
e was investigated using HREELS and TPD measurements over the temperat
ure range 90-500 K. Molecular desorption of multilayer and monolayer b
romocyclopropane was detected at 160 and 208 K, respectively. Changes
in the relative intensities of the HREELS peaks provide some evidence
that a small fraction of the monolayer dissociates on the Cu(110) surf
ace at or below 210 K. A comparison of spectra obtained at 250 K with
previous results for electron irradiated cyclopropane suggests the for
mation of a small coverage of cyclopropyl groups. A weak TPD peak at 3
63 It is tentatively attributed to propene formation via cyclopropyl d
ecomposition. DFT-LSD calculated data are used in the assignment of th
e HREELS loss peaks. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserve
