The ''Entre-deux-Mers'' region (Gironde), is a moving panel of the sta
ble North-Aquitaine margin. It is overlain by Oligocene shallow water
carbonate deposits with high porosity (grainstones, packstones, bounds
tones), or low porosity (mudstones and wackestones) facies. During the
Plio-Pleistocene period, a fault system, resulting from Pyreneo-Alpin
e orogenesis, induced a karstic network related to tectonic fracturati
ons, high porosity Oligocene facies distribution and glacio-eustatic s
ea-level variations.
