Av. Muthal et Ct. Chopde, STIMULATION OF GASTRIC-ACID SECRETION BY CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION OF FMRFAMIDE IN RATS, Indian journal of medical research. Section B: Biomedical research other than infectious diseases, 98, 1993, pp. 185-187
The possible role of centrally administered tetrapeptide FMRFamide (Ph
e-Met-Arg-Phe-NH2) On gastric acid secretion in pylorus ligated rats w
as investigated. Intracerebroventricularly administered FMRFamide stim
ulated the gastric acid secretion in a dose-dependant manner. This sti
mulatory effect was abolished by vagotomy and atropine pretreatment. T
he presence of FMRFamide in rat brain and the ability of FMRFamide to
stimulate gastric acid secretion suggest that FMRFamide plays a physio
logical role in brain modulation of gastric acid secretion.
