Abstract
The interplay of collective and non-collective modes in Ce-140 is stud ied via comparison of available data with results of the quasiparticle -phonon model (QPM). Lifetime values have been checked in the La-140 d ecay using delayed betagamma coincidences. The half-life of the J(pi)= 4(1)+ level is confirmed as T1/2(2083.6keV)= 3.3 +/- 0.2 ns and upper limits of 0.1-0.2 ns are estimated for other levels. Extensive calcula tions within the QPM are carried out including one-, two- and three-ph onon components in the wavefunctions. Comparisons to other N = 82 nucl ei are made as well.
