Tuberculosis (TB) is a rare, but potentially fatal complication of ano
rexia nervosa. Recent concerns regarding the increasing incidence of t
uberculosis, with increasing treatment resistance, is worrying for pra
ctitioners working with potentially immunocompromised patients. We rep
ort on three cases of hospitalized anorexics diagnosed with-untreated-
TB following admission for treatment of their anorexia nervosa. Presen
ting features, course of treatment, treatment outcome and implications
are discussed. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and Eating Disorders A
