Abstract
People with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) have a significantly elevated risk o f attempted or completed suicide. This paper reports the case of a 33- year-old woman in treatment for severe AN and self-harm who used her n asogastric tube as a means by which to attempt strangulation. This dem onstrates a novel, unexpected, and potentially lethal means of suicide . Amongst those at risk of self-harm, nse of nasogastric feeding regim es may require special precaution and supervision. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and Eating Disorders Association.
