Abstract
The heartwood lignans of Norway spruce (Picea abies) were isolated by solvent extraction. Hydroxymatairesinol, the dominant lignan and its m ajor isomer (weight ratio 3.5:1) were separated by preparative TLC and their structures were elucidated using NMR spectroscopy and molecular modelling.
