Abstract
This paper deals with the optimization of surface finish for ball-burn ishing brass components using the response surface method. A mathemati cal model was established to correlate the most pronounced parameters, i.e. the burnishing force and the number of tool passes, with the sur face finish. The model predicted that an optimum surface finish of 0.1 72 mu m can be obtained when burnishing at a force of 20.7 kgf (203 N) with two passes of the burnishing tool.
