Abstract
Several D-sigma-A compounds (4a, 4b, 6a, and 6b) have been synthesized , which contain a sterically hindered quinone tethered by a tetramethy lene chain to a substituted tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). Compounds 6a and 6b show a dramatic increase (approximate to 450 mV) in the oxidation potential of the dipyrrolo-TTF unit, suggestive of considerable electr on withdrawal through the a bridge. Monolayers of 4b and 6b are metast able at the air-water interface. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All ri ghts reserved.
