Abstract
Diels-Alder cycloadditions of naphthoquinone derivatives (3-8) with me thacrolein N,N-dimethylhydrazone (9) have been investigated. In the re action with the quinones (3-4) and (8) the initial cycloadducts (10, 1 1 and 17a,b) were isolated in good yields. However, the cycloaddition with quinones (5-7) affords directly the corresponding aromatized azaa nthraquinones (12, 15a acid 16a,b) in good yields.
