Abstract
The specific heat and the phase diagram of the Ising square lattice wi th nearest- (J1) and next-nearest-neighbour (J2) interactions we studi ed within the cluster variation method. The Ising Hamiltonian is solve d in the square (Wannier-Kramer) approximation. The phase diagram is c alculated and compared with other previous studies.
