The ATM Wireless Access (AWA) prototype employs TDMA-TDD (Time Divisio
n Multiple Access-Time Division Duplex) to flexibly support user de-ma
nd. It also employs sector/space diversity to combat shadowing and mul
tipath fading. The frame format, access-, control-, and user-channel f
unctions, frame synchronization, and forward error correction are pres
ented. The diversity/sector antenna configuration and the control sche
mes are also described.
