Abstract
Using a variational procedure within the effective-mass approximation, we found that spatially dependent screening increases the binding ene rgies of shallow hydrogenic impurity states in GaAs-(Ga,A1)As quantum- well wires. These energies are higher than those found when constant s creening is used.
