B. Grytnerziecina et al., VERIFICATION OF FEATURES OF THE GENUS FIMBRIARIA (FROELICH, 1802) ANDA KEY TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF SPECIES, Acta Parasitologica, 43(3), 1998, pp. 122-127
Knowledge to dale on the morphology of Fimbriaria tapeworms is summari
sed, with features of the genus being verified and augmented by some n
ot previously taken account of, like the ultrastructure of the tegumen
t. The most important features in accurate identification to the level
of the species are the structure of the oncospheral envelope and the
manner in which eggs are released from the uterus. Other features of d
iagnostic importance are the number of primordia of reproductive organ
s, the number of hooks at the cirrus base and the dimensions of the ci
rrus and cirrus pouches. A key to the identification of species is pro
vided.
