This is a report of a workshop on the ''state of the art' and potentia
l future directions in the study of the electrode/electrolyte interfac
e. Recent advances in experimental capabilities of characterizing the
structure of the interface, e.g., through the use of such techniques a
s scanning tunneling microscopy and X-ray methods, are described. New
approaches to studies of interfacial dynamics and materials aspects of
the electrode/electrolyte interface are also discussed.
