Selectivity of CO-H-2 reaction over Pd/CeO2 changed drastically from m
ethanol to methane by higher temperature reduction (SMSI effect). Faci
le isotopic exchange reaction of (CO)-C-12-O-18-(CO)-C-13-O-16 indicat
ed the dissociative adsorption of CO over reduced PdiCeO(2), which cor
responds to the acceleration of methane formation. Infrared spectrosco
pic investigation during the reaction suggested that methanol formatio
n sites were formed by the transformation of methane formation sites.
