DIMETHYLPHOSPHANYLETHYLCYCLOPENTADIENYL COMPLEXES OF LANTHANUM AND YTTRIUM

The reactions of Li[CSH4(CH2)(2)P(CH3)(2)] (1) With La(CF3SO3)(3) and Y(CF3SO3)(3) are described. Three equivalents of 1 reacted with La(CF3 SO3)(3) under formation of La[C5H4(CH2)(2)P(CH3)(2)](3) (2). Two equiv alents of 1 with one equivalent of Y(CF3SO3)(3) in the presence of LiB r yielded BrY[C5H4(CH2)(2)P(CH3)(2)](2) (3). Both complexes 2 and 3 ha ve been characterized by X-ray structure analysis. In both cases an in tramolecular coordination of the phosphanoethyl chain is established i n the solid state by X-ray crystallography as well as in solution by N MR spectroscopy.
