A double papilla of Vater, with separate openings for the bile duct an
d the pancreatic duct, is a rare anatomic anomaly observed in endoscop
ic retrograde cholangiopancreatogaphy (ERCP). We report the case of a
45-year-old Chinese man with obstructive jaundice due to common bile d
uct stones and gallbladder stones. During ERCP, a double papilla of Va
ter with separate drainage for the bile duct and the pancreatic duct w
as observed. As the anatomy was unusual, no sphincterotomy was perform
ed, but a biliary stent was inserted. Subsequently, the patient underw
ent cholecystectomy and exploration of the common bile duct. On the 15
th postoperative day, he was asymptomatic and was discharged.
