Rr. Gurski et al., LAPAROSCOPIC APPROACH TO WANDERING SPLEEN - A CASE-REPORT AND AN UPDATE TO THE QUESTION, Surgical laparoscopy & endoscopy, 8(5), 1998, pp. 363-365
Wandering spleen is seldom seen in everyday situations, and its preval
ence is not well defined in the literature. Its causes are not precise
ly known, and there is controversy over its management. A 34-year-old
woman experienced low-intensity abdominal pain associated with a palpa
ble hypogastric mass, which was confirmed by imaging studies to be a w
andering spleen. Because of ureteral compression, a surgical approach
was decided upon, and videolaparoscopic splenectomy was chosen. This t
echnique, comments about specific technical issues, and other treatmen
t options presented in the literature are discussed. Videolaparoscopic
splenectomy has excellent surgical results, both functional and aesth
etic.
