A container design for fabricating low-energy x-ray scintillation dete
ctors is proposed. CaI2 and CaI2:Eu crystal detectors are fabricated a
nd their characteristics are investigated. It is shown that on account
of their layered structure, perfect cleavage, and high light output,
calcium iodide scintillators can be used to fabricate thin-film detect
