A model kinetic equation is constructed which describes the behavior o
f molecular (polyatomic) gases in which the vibrational degrees of fre
edom are ''frozen'' and the rotational degrees of freedom are treated
quasiclassically. An analytical solution is obtained for the Smoluchow
ski problem of the temperature jump and weak evaporation above a plana
r surface in a half space. Numerical calculations are carried out. (C)
