The corrosion behavior of mild steel was investigated in 0.1 M H2SO4 s
olutions in the presence of water and ethanol In different ratios, by
the help of anodic and cathodic polarization curves. The passivity of
mild steel was found to be markedly dependent upon the acid concentrat
ion. The polarization curves obtained in concentrated acid solutions c
ontaining ethanol were significantly different from those obtained in
ethanolic solutions having lower acid concentration. The passivity cur
rents were lower than those observed in aqueous solutions. (C) 1998 El
