The interfacial electrochemical behavior of negatively charged, layere
d structure, hydrophilic and hydrophobized swollen inorganic colloid a
l clay films and cationic-dye- and cation ic-surfactant-incorporated c
lay films, electrochemically prepared organic polyaniline films and in
organic-organic composite materials (clay-polyaniline semiconductor wi
res and nanowires; clay-CdS,PbS semiconductor colloidal particles and
nanoparticles) has been investigated. Surface electrochemistry was mon
itored via cyclic voltammetry. We have examined the charge-transport r
eactions of the Fe(CN)(6)(3-) and Ru(NH3)(6)(3+) probe ions and p-benz
oquinone and nitrobenzene probes. The effect of the hydrophobization,
incorporation and composite formation on the rate of the charge-transp
ort processes are discussed on the basis of the effect of different pr
ocesses on the structure of the colloidal thin clay-film layer. (C) 19
