A novel H-1 imaging method for solids, yielding images reflecting H-1-
C-13 dipolar interactions through cross relaxation time T-IS, is prese
nted. Phase-alternating multiple-contact cross polarization (PAMC CP)
was incorporated into the magic-echo frequency-encoding imaging scheme
; the PAMC CP sequence may partly but efficiently destroy the initial
H-1 magnetization depending on the T-IS values. A theory describing th
e effects of the PAMC CP sequence was developed, which was used for th
e assessment of the sequence as well as the analysis for the experimen
tal results. It was demonstrated that the T-IS-weighted H-1 image and
the T-IS mapping for a phantom, constituted of adamantane and ferrocen
e, can distinguish these compounds clearly. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
