E. Daser, INTERACTION, SYMBOLISATION AND INTERPRETATION WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OFTHE TRIADIC STRUCTURE OF PERCEPTION, Forum der Psychoanalyse, 14(3), 1998, pp. 225-240
The triadic structure of perception means that a fact can only be perc
eived because it differs from other facts, and that this difference ca
n only be perceived with regard to an aspect which is shared by each o
f the different facts. The different facts and their common generic as
pect form a triadic structure which every process of perception is bas
ed on. The following essay tries to explain what this structure means
for psychoanalysis, formation of consciousness and self-experience. Sy
mbolisation is explained as a form of interactional realisation of thi
s structure in analytical dialogue. Here interpretation and interactio
n do not conflict or exclude each other - on the contrary they complem
ent and drive each other forward as elements of one and the same movem
ent which creates consciousness and structure. The form of this moveme
nt is defined as interactional integration. As basic relational catego
ry interactional integration is no longer a transference - related for
m of relationship. Important parts of the concept are exemplified by c
ase histories.
