Diabatic-blocking calculations, with inclusion of gamma-deformation, a
re performed for the first time. Significant configuration dependence
is found for multi-quasiparticle potential-energy surfaces. The calcul
ations of quasiparticle energies require a renormalised pairing streng
th which includes shape and blocking effects in reproducing experiment
al odd-even mass differences. The detailed excitation energies known i
n W-178 are well reproduced. For the Os-182 K-pi = 25(+) isomer, the c
alculation shows \gamma\ approximate to 10 degrees and the obtained qu
