The redox behavior of silver ion [Ag(I)] is studied at carbon paste el
ectrodes (CPE) in presence of the macrocyclic ligand 2,5,8-trithia[9]-
m-cyclophane (TTCP) in ethanol. The formation of a Ag(I) complex of th
e TTCP is concluded from the appearance of two oxidation peaks and two
corresponding reduction peaks at the CPE. Potentiostatic pretreatment
(at potentials in the range from -0.4 V to +0.25 V) lends to the adso
rption of the ligand as well as the deposition of Ag(0) at the electro
de surface, which reacts then to the Ag(I) complex during the anodic c
ycle. Thr results indicate that TTCP can be used as electrode modifier
for the immobilization of silver at electrode surfaces.
