Ans. Iyengar et al., RUNAWAY ELECTRON STUDIES IN THE STARTUP PHASE OF VERY-LOW EDGE SAFETYFACTOR (Q(A)) (VLQ) DISCHARGES IN THE SINP TOKAMAK, Nuclear fusion, 38(8), 1998, pp. 1177-1181
Two interesting features of runaway behaviour are observed in the star
tup phase of the very low q(a) (VLQ) (1 < q(a) < 2) discharges in the
SINP tokamak. As q(a) was reduced by lowering the toroidal field value
s, the hard X (HX) ray intensity (which indicates the presence of runa
way electrons) fell considerably. The time at which the peak in the HX
ray intensity occurs also shifts ahead in time, indicating premature
dumping of the runaway electrons. This seems to aid the development of
the rest of the discharge as exhibited by the diamagnetic loop signal
.
