Gp. Panteleeva et al., PECULIARITIES OF PAXIL CLINICAL ACTION IN ENDOGENOUS DEPRESSIONS, Zurnal nevropatologii i psihiatrii im. S.S. Korsakova, 98(6), 1998, pp. 26-31
47 patients with endogenous depressions were treated with peril (parox
etine) during 4 weeks in the daily dose of 30-40 mg. Improvement of ps
ychical state was observed in 89.3% of the patients; improvement was s
ignificant in 78.7%. Severity of the depression reduced from 28.9 to 6
.0 scores according to Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. Antidepressiv
e activity of paxil was observed at the third day of the therapy. Symp
toms of depression dissappeared completely in 46.7% of the patients 2
weeks after the begining of treatment and in 62.8% of the cases in 4 w
eeks. Thymoleptic and sedative-anxiolytic effects prevailed in the spe
ctrum of antidepressive activity of paxil; while its stimulating effec
t was expressed smaller. Mentioned peculiarities of paxil action, its
small toxicity and positive subjective attitude of the patients toward
s the drug make this preparation quite valuable, especially in the tre
atment of classic melancholic and anxious depressions.
