Abstract
A recent symposium focused on immunological mechanisms of mucosal pro tection and disturbances of these that lend to disturbances and destru ction in the gastrointestinal tract. Increased understanding of the mo lecular interactions involved is likely to have an important impact on new therapeutic strategies for autoimmune diseases, gastrointestinal infections and chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
