Abstract
A 6 1/2 year old eretrean girl suffered from severe aortic and mitral insufficiency following rheumatic fever. The deficient aortic valve wa s replaced by an autograft consisting of the pulmonary valve and likew ise the pulmonary artery root, based on the Ross procedure. At the sam e time the mitral valve was reconstructed. After the operation the res ult regarding to the aortic va Ive was excellent, the mitral valve sho wed an only slightly insufficiency. Conclusion:Thus,a pulmonary autogr aft is a real alternative to an implantation of an aortic valve prothe sis. This case report could encourage specialists to apply the Ross op erational technique to patients suffering from similar conditions.
