During the last years. the amount of literature on work transitions ha
s increased as a consequence of the increment of work complexity. In t
his context, research on work mobility has a critical important in the
early stage of one's cal rer because it has a unequivocal relationshi
p with one's later career. The current study aims to analyse some inte
rnal and behavioral antecedents and consequences of job status change,
as a kind of transition, in a sample of young people during the early
stage of their careers. The research presents a longitudinal design w
ith two waves of data collection. The sample consisted of young worker
s who belonged to two occupational groups: operators of office technol
ogy and machine operators in production/manufacturing in the metal ind
ustry. Results suggest that the young employees who ale promoted tend
to use more often career-enhancing strategies and innovation behaviors
. Moreover, hierarchical change has relevant consequences in their wor
k fit strategies and work perceptions and affective responses.
