An analysis of two experimental methods is presented: the genetic-mode
lator method and the statistical (quantitative) method, for the study
of egocentric language as regulator and planner of action in the child
. Some theoretical reflexions concerning methods are presented based o
n its use in a research work carried out by the author at Moscow State
University on ''The role of language in the solution of spatial tasks
by children of pre-school age''. The genetic-modelator method, and no
t the quantitative evaluation of psychical processes, studies the form
ation of those processes. The specific genetic method, also called met
hod of the formative experiment, is worked by the Vygotski School.
