R. Abello et al., ABILITIES OF THE CONCEPTUAL PERSPECTIVE ELECTION PROCESS IN CHILDREN 3 TO 6 YEARS OLD, FROM DISADVANTAGED SOCIOECONOMIC LEVELS IN COLOMBIA, Revista latinoamericana de psicología, 30(2), 1998, pp. 311-336
Piaget's key concept was the Egocentrism, which initially was conceive
d as an disability of the small child to visualize various aspects of
a situation or objects, which characterized him as the owner of a ''ce
ntered'' and rigorous mind setting. Based on these foundations, the in
tellectual development is considered as a consequence of the social in
teraction. In other words, the goal accomplished by the individual whe
n he recognizes different perspectives from his, moving freely from on
e to another, served as a precedent for the apparition of concrete ope
rations in the mind setting. The ability of choosing perspectives is a
n aspect of the cognitive development process which has started to acq
uire importance in the last decades, due to it is considered as a basi
c factor of the social behavior. Positive relationships have been foun
d between the election of the conceptual perspective and the cooperati
ve activity in the search for the solution of problems (leadership mea
sures, sociability, friendship, cooperation, and others). The objectiv
e of this research was to identity and analyze the abilities of the co
nceptual perspective election process of 268 children ranging ages bet
ween 3 to 6 year old from both genders, who live in economically disad
vantaged regions of the Colombian Caribbean Coast and who also attend
to ''Programas de Hogares Comunitarios de Bienestar'', which is the Co
lombian model for attending children in need. The data obtained allow
the approach to the child who establishes a concrete particular relati
onship with a particular environment, in which such child builds up hi
s behavior, his mind setting and emotions, according to the social and
cultural structures that are transmited through the exchange within t
he environment. The data reflected a total disability from the child i
n relation to the cognitive perspective election process and a growing
ability related to the communicative perspective election process.
