Two-step epitaxial growth was observed in the molecular beam epitaxy g
rowth of vanadyl-phthalocyanine molecules on KCl substrates. Ar the fi
rst stage, tetragonal domains of the (root 10 x root 10) R +/- 27 degr
ees type lattice grow two dimensionally. The nucleation and three-dime
nsional growth of the monoclinic islands start subsequently after the
precedent tetragonal domains cover almost the whole substrate. The ori
entation of the islands is also the (root 10 x root 10) R +/- 27 degre
es type, indicating that the orientation is dominated by that of the p
recedent tetragonal domains.
