T. Miyamoto et al., A FIRST FELINE CASE OF CARDIOMYOPATHY ASSOCIATED WITH HYPERTHYROIDISMDUE TO THYROID ADENOMA IN JAPAN, Feline practice (1990), 26(5), 1998, pp. 6-9
A 13-year-old castrated male Persian cat was presented with depression
anorexia, and weight loss. Radiographic and electrocardiographical ex
aminations revealed cardiomegaly and sinus tachycardia. Cardiac ultras
onography indicated hypertrophy of the left ventricular free wall and
interventricular septum, and left atrial enlargement Elevated serum T3
and T4 levels were observed and thyroid adenoma was confirmed by hist
opathology. Based on these findings, the cat was diagnosed as cardiomy
opathy associated with hyperthyroidism induced by thyroid tumor. This
report describes the first feline case of cardiomyopathy associated wi
th hyperthyroidism in Japan.
