A study was made of distribution of molecular iodine between aqueous s
olutions and 30% TBP solution in RED-4. In the studied range of the vo
lume ratios between the organic and aqueous phases and the initial con
centration of iodine the distribution coefficient of iodine varies fro
m 500 to 1500, The regression equation was formulated which adequately
describes the dependence of the It distribution coefficient on the vo
lume ratio between the organic and aqueous phase, the volume content o
f TBP in the extractant, and the iodine concentration in the initial s
olution. The distribution coefficient has no maximum within the range
of variation of the principal factors and steeply increases with incre
asing TBP concentration. The 15-20% TBP solutions in RED-4 were found
to be the optimal in extraction of iodine.
