The absorption capacity for uranyl ions of natural polyphenolic flavon
oid quercetin immobilized on various available and cheap supports (cot
ton fabrics, Dacron, and silica gel of different brands) was studied,
and the effect of Co-60 radiation on their sorption was evaluated. Sor
ption of uranyl ions from aqueous solutions by quercetin immobilized o
n various supports depends predominantly on the support nature, and th
e highest effect is observed for cellulose supports impregnated with q
uercetin in the oxidized form. The gamma-radiation (60Co) activates so
rption of UO22+ on impregnated nonsterile gauze, and the best result i
s provided by irradiation of nonsterile gauze directly in the querceti
n solution.
