The standard Hartley transform is not directly applicable to the repre
sentation of signals whose properties change markedly as a function of
time. The short-time Hartley transform (STHT), a time-varying Hartley
representation of a signal, is therefore introduced. The analysis and
synthesis procedures of the STHT system are described in detail. The
bulk of the computation in both analysis and synthesis procedures is p
erformed by the FHT (fast Hartley transform), thereby making the syste
m attractive for implementation, especially if a high-speed FHT proces
sor is available.
