We present the motion of the valence electron in the field of a closed
Li+ core with a one-electron model potential, and calculate the dynam
ic multipole polarizabilities of the ground state of lithium at imagin
ary frequencies through a variation-perturbation approach. They are us
ed to calculate the dispersion coefficients, C-6, C-8, and C-10 and th
e retardation coefficients. The dispersion coefficients and retardatio
n coefficients govern the retardation potentials between two lithium a
toms. The present numerical results are compared with other calculatio
ns.
